The winner of the 2009 NH GeoBee was Cooper Lecza, an 8th grade student who attends Ross A Lurgio Middle School, Bedford NH.
Cooper will receive $100, the “National Geographic Collegiate Atlas of the World” and a trip to Washington, D.C., where he will represent New Hampshire in the national finals at the National Geographic Headquarters, May 19-20, 2009.
The national finals will be televised and hosted by “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek and the winner of the national competition gets a free trip to the Galapagos Islands with Trebek and the Jeopardy Clue Crew, a $25,000 scholarship and a lifetime membership with National Geographic.
Joe Ronca, a 6th grader from West Runningbrook School, Derry NH, took second place and Adam Burnett, a 7th grade student representing Westmoreland School, Westmoreland took third place in a hard fought, hour long final contest.
