Land Navigation 101

This comprehensive course will familiarize participants with the proper use of map and compass
when navigating in wilderness environments. Topics include reading topographic maps, compasses,
measuring and following bearings, creating trip plans, "improvised" navigation, and more.
The workshop will commence at 8:30am and conclude at 4:30pm, beginning at the Mount Washington Observatory
Weather Discovery Center, located at 2779 White Mountain Highway in North Conway, NH.
This eight-hour course will spend the first four hours in the classroom and the second four hours in the field.
The fee for members of Observatory is $95 and $125 for non-members.
This fee includes instruction and associated materials.

Space is limited, so advance reservations are strongly encouraged. Class size is restricted to 12 people
to insure plenty of hands on instruction and supervision by the educator.
A minimum of six participants is needed for this course to run.
No refunds will be issued after August 1.
Participants should be in good physical condition and able to hike uphill for 2+ hours and carry a light
daypack. Closed toe footwear required (no flip flops).
For the safety of all concerned, those who are not in good physical condition or not properly clothed
will NOT be allowed to participate on the field trip portion of the workshop,and refunds will NOT be possible.
