GIS EDUCATORS DAY

GIS Educators Day (November 11) at the 27th Annual NEARC Conference Sunday, November 11 – Wednesday, November 14 Samoset Resort, Rockland, Maine   GIS Educators Day, sponsored by NEARC, Esri, and the New England Geography Education Network, is a full-day conference devoted exclusively to topics and issues pertaining to the use of GIS and other geospatial technologies in K-12, college, and informal education. GIS Educators Day will be held Sunday, November 11 in connection with the annual NEARC Conference. This year we are pleased to combine our event with the annual Conference of GIS Educators from Maine. We look forward to the expanded professional opportunities that this collaboration makes possible. GIS Educators Day is a one day pre-conference to NEARC’s annual professional user conference which will run from November 11 – 14 at the nearby Samoset Resort. GIS Educators Day will feature a lunchtime keynote by Dr. Matthew Bampton (University of Southern Maine), hands-on computer labs, oral presentations, panel discussions, and posters, exploring a range of resources, projects, and topics. The day will also include a student map competition. GIS Educators Day addresses the number one goal of GIS conference goers…the opportunity to network with other educational professionals who share your interest in geospatial technologies. Whether you’re a K-12 or college educator, an experienced GIS user or a newcomer who wants to learn about the educational possibilities of this powerful tool, you’ll want to put this outstanding regional event on your “Must Do” list for 2012. GIS Educators – Don’t hide your light under a bushel!

Share your experience and your expertise with others ……… NEARC and the New England Geography Alliance Network will hold their 3rd Annual GIS Educators Day on November 7, 2010 at the Marriott Hotel in Newport, RI. The event, which focuses on the use of GIS in both K-12 and higher education, is a one day preconference to NEARC’s annual user conference which runs from November 7-10. The event is for experienced GIS users as well as for those who want to learn about the educational possibilities of this powerful tool. Informal educators (4H, afterschool programs, scouts, etc.) are encouraged to participate as well. If you are interested in submitting a presentation proposal for GIS Educators Day, criteria are listed below. PRESENTATION FORMAT Oral Presentations are 20-30 minutes in length. Panel Presentations can include up to 3 presenters, but you must submit the complete presentation concept as part of your abstract. Workshops are 1 hour hands-on sessions in a computer lab. Poster Presentations will be given space of no more than 4’ x 4’. Awards will be given to the top poster presentations.
