UNH Summer Program in Cambridge

The program offers very good value:  8 credits, available for graduate or undergraduate credit, taught by UNH and Cambridge University faculty; room and board; excursion fees, including a bonus weekend in Edinburgh; theater tickets; opportunities to learn about doing graduate work in the UK and advice on applying, for example.   This summer, we will be offering courses especially well-suited to middle- and high-school teachers (check them out), and it would be a wonderful way to earn credits and have a fantastic, enriching summer.  We’ll work with current and aspiring teachers to make sure they have a professional experience that matches their needs.   The program is in its 27th year, and is much loved by its alumni.  Who could resist?  Reading literature, visiting historical landmarks, trying your hand at travel writing, travelling through the UK, going to the theater, exploring the local pubs and clubs, and living in a 16th century British college (home to Crick, Venn, Hawking and countless others; next door to Newton’s college; in a town filled with the haunts of Virginia Woolf, Lord Byron, and countless other luminaries from British history and culture) What an opportunity to expand their horizons!   Learn more at:...

University of New Hampshire, Durham: GIS Day Event.

This is our tenth year, and we are very excited about it!  It will be this Wednesday, November 12, 2008.   GIS Day is an outreach event that brings hundreds of high school juniors and seniors together with hundreds of geo-spatial science professionals, university level educators, and the general public to learn more about the important contributions that geography and geo-spatial science make in all of our lives. The event (http://gisday.sr.unh.edu/) will include a display of a sampling of our map collections from the previous ten years, a celebration of NASA’s 50th anniversary, the Ice Worlds Plantarium Show, a vendor hall, and a college fair.  Total attendance for this year’s event is expected to exceed 600 professional and student participants. We would love to extend an invitation to you and your colleagues both at Keene State and in the Geography Alliance.  The event is free to attend and participate.  Please pass this email along if there are any others that you feel would welcome an invitation to this years event.  We generally send out save-the-dates and invitations in late summer.  If there are any folks who should be on that list for next year, I would greatly appreciate it if you would send their contact information along to me....
